Let It Shine….

Welcome to my next homework assignment for my Altenew Academy Educator Certification. Today is All About Shine.

There are LOTS of ways to add shine to your projects. Glitter, embossing powder, embellishments, shimmer and sparkle pens, metallic paper and foils.

While I am not a fan of glitter itself, I do like glitter paper! I use embossing powder a lot, especially for my sentiments. Embellishments are awesome. I often use rhinestones, dew drops and sequins. If you have followed me for a while you already know “everything is better with a wink of Stella” or a Nuvo shimmer pen! I have not worked much with metallic paper except around the holidays. There are however lots of fun colors out there that I really need to try out. Lastly foils, foils are awesome. I recently learned you can use them even without a laminator.

Last week I colored a cute Mermaid from The Rabbit Hole. Using it as one of my challenge cards and next month it will be a birthday card for one of my favorite little mermaids!  I colored the scales on the fin then covered it with a Wink of Stella. This is a super way to give fish scales and wings a little shine.

Let me tell you about using deco foil WITHOUT the laminator!  I will show you the “Dipped” technique . I will be using a large word die that I have that was part of an exclusive kit I received from Hedgehog Hollow.

Cut out your word or image preserving the negative for easier handling.

Using a chisel tipped glue pen, add glue where you would like the foil to be. Let it dry a bit and place a piece of foil on top. The colored side up, and gently burnish with your bone folder. Now without removing the foil, run it through your die cutter as if you were cutting it without the metal die. (just the paper and foil!)

Then slowly pull the foil sheet back……..

Super cool, right?!  It also will allow you to use all those little extra bits of foil that might otherwise go wasted. I am still just so amazed!

I hope I gave you lots of options to get your shine on. Now get out there and add some glitz, glimmer, shimmer and shine to your projects!

That was just a single layer, as I wanted the color to shine thru. Sometimes you have to give the tube a really good shake to mix the shimmer, or yes you get a really light cover. The foil is fun! I cannot believe I never knew this!

Jill, I LOVE this technique. I might have to find me some foil The mermaid card is adorable. It looks fantastic. Do you add multiple layers of Wink? Mine never seems to be so noticable.
Have a blessed day!
